How Much Power Training Do You Need?

The answer depends on your goals, age, and training history.

For many healthy adults:

  • Two sessions per week are sufficient.

  • Choose two to four power-focused exercises.

  • Perform three to five sets.

  • Complete approximately three to six repetitions per set.

  • Focus on maximal movement quality and speed.

  • Rest adequately between sets so each repetition remains explosive.

Unlike traditional strength training, fatigue is not the goal.

Once movement slows down, the power stimulus begins to diminish.

Stop while the quality is still high.

Common Misconceptions

"Power training is dangerous."

Not when it's appropriately prescribed.

Power training should be individualized, progressive, and technically sound.

For one person, power training might mean jumping.
